🛋️ Meet Spencer
👦 Age: 10
🔹 Loves: Learning about space, all sports (but especially hockey), solving mysteries, and adventure (even if he won’t admit it).
🔹 Dislikes: Moving to a new town, having to make new friends, dealing with Justin’s antics, and spiders!
🔹 Strengths: Smart, cautious, a deep thinker, more introverted / quieter, and athletic.
🔹 Struggles: With self-acceptance / self love, anxiety, and staying focused (ADHD).
Spencer is not happy about his family moving right before summer. He has no friends in his new town and isn’t looking forward to starting over in fifth grade. He hates the idea of being the new kid. He had good friends at his last school, and making new friends makes him anxious.
But when Justin disappears under the couch, and the nanny also disappears, Spencer is forced to take action. He must face the unknown, think quickly, and protect his little brother—even when he’s terrified himself.
Spencer might not be ready for an adventure, but adventure is ready for him.
👶 Meet Justin
👦 Age: 7
🔹 Loves: Playing games like hide-and-seek, eating candy, having fun, goofing around, telling jokes, and mostly annoying his older brother, Spencer.
🔹 Dislikes: Reading and vegetables.
🔹 Strengths: Fearless, always curious, full of energy.
🔹 Struggles: He’s going into second grade, and reading is hard for him. (He has dyslexia.)
Justin is the reason this adventure begins! His love for playing and his fearless curiosity leads him straight into the under-the-couch world, dragging Spencer along for the ride.
Justin might be reckless, but his excitement and bravery help the brothers push forward—sometimes into dangerous situations and sometimes into life-changing discoveries.

👩 The mysterious nanny
🔹 Always watching the boys closely and seems to know what they are thinking.
🔹 Seems to know more than she’s saying
🔹 Might have a secret or two of her own. She keeps her big purse with her and away from the boys. And … she does and says strange things.
The parents work all the time and hired someone their age to watch the boys for the summer. Ms. Lori isn’t just any babysitter. From the start, Spencer notices that she’s… different. She talks about energy and plants all the time, and does weird things. She’s very private and doesn’t share much about her life with the boys.
She watches them a little too closely. The only time they can escape to go on adventures is when she falls asleep watching her afternoon TV show.
