Thank you for your interest in the Under the Couch book series!

We’re excited to provide you with a collection of helpful teaching resources for each of the 12 books in the series—including a lesson plan, quiz, and answer guide—to support your students’ learning journey.

This series is specially written for reluctant readers at a second-grade reading level, with content that is appropriate and engaging for children of all ages, particularly 8 to 12.

Throughout a life-changing summer, the two main characters—ten-year-old Spencer, who has ADHD and anxiety, and his seven-year-old brother Justin, who discovers he is dyslexic—learn to turn their challenges into strengths. With creativity, resilience, and heart, they navigate adventures that teach meaningful life lessons.

Each book emphasizes key Social Emotional Learning (SEL) themes such as self-love and acceptance, problem solving, responsible decision-making, respecting nature, sibling relationships, the impact of kindness, and anti-bullying. The stories are aligned with standards-based learning and designed to encourage discussion, empathy, and personal growth.

We recommend reading the books in order, starting with Book 1, Hide and Seek, to fully experience the brothers’ development and uncover the mystery of the couch.
